Oscoda entrepreneur runs to encourage small business owners

George Morse of Oscoda runs through Rogers City Thursday

In an effort to keep the entrepreneurial fires burning in Michigan’s small business owners, an Oscoda man is running 1,000 miles, visiting 200 communities across the state.

George Morse, a small business owner himself, has embarked on a journey he hopes will re-ignite a passion in proprietors as Michigan’s economy struggles to recover.

“I’m hoping to help motivate business owners to stay in the game,” Morse said during his run Thursday, through Rogers City. Morse told True North Radio he is also running to raise awareness of the many challenges facing the state’s business community as a whole.

Locally, he has met people driving commerce while running through his hometown of Oscoda as well as Alpena, Onaway and more.

Morse plans to be on the run for nearly eight months. He recently started his trek and so far has 75 miles under his belt through 15 cities. He plans to finish his trip in April 2011, at the steps of the state capital in Lansing.

A website chronicling his journey, complete with video of the places he has visited, can be found online at www.thousandmilesformichigan.com.
